Domaine les Grandes Vignes la Varenne du Poirier 2020
Located in Anjou, this rather large estate of 55 hectares has been in the Vaillant family since the 17th century and has been cultivated biodynamically since 2008, while low-interventionist methods are used in the cellar. In a way, it’s a return to basics from a storied wine-producing family. Aromas of white flowers blend into notes of lemon peel and green apple with a crisp acidity and overall toasty character on the finish. A perfect accompaniment to grilled fish or raw oysters.
Growing Area: Black shale covers 2/3rds of the vineyard on the hillsides overlooking Arcison, a tributary of the Layon
Varieties: 100% Chenin Blanc from average 20-year old vines
Aging: 400L oak barrels for 12 months
