Nathalie Banes "La Saoulee" 2020 MAG
Nathalie Banes
Working out of the region in southern Beaujolais known as Peirres Dorees, or golden stones, which features predominant limestone soils, Nathalie Banes is a younger winemaker, who started her wine label in 2015 and farms biodynamically and uses minimal interventionist methods, harvesting by hand with the help of her horses, while still managing to make the kind of classically approachable light reds the region is known for. This Magnum of Gamay is a perfect example. Aged in giant old barrels, it is deliciously light with bright red fruit, poised with just a little bit of grip and minerality, and just a little bit wild. Perfect for get-togethers and picnics as there is plenty to go around. Serve with a slight chill.
